Travelling through rural areas of Cambodia reveals often a very similar pattern: half-empty villages with elderly people taking care of young children as the parents have migrated for work to support them and their family at home. Why did the parents leave? Are there any patterns to observe in Cambodian migration to Thailand?

The research analyses the trends of Cambodian labour migration to Thailand between 2013 and 2015, following the outflow of Cambodian workers from Thailand in 2014. The research studies selected population of the 3 target provinces of Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey and Battambang. It outlines the legal aspects of Cambodian-Thai migration, summarizes the challenges faced by migrants, and it provides a set of recommendations for international non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations.
